Writing 101: Day5, Be Brief

Today’s assignment: You stumble upon a random letter on the path. You read it. It affects you deeply, and you wish it could be returned to the person to which it’s addressed. Write a story about this encounter.

Little did I know that a small, worn out piece of paper could contain an ocean of raw emotions. It seemed insignificant at first sight, concealed under a rubble. But the message it held was powerful and emotionally stimulating. It was a letter written by a girl to her father. As evident from the content, they didn’t have anyone else in the family and these two could never be on the same page. Their opinions were ten blocks away from each other, every single time they had a discussion. She wrote how it pained her heart, and knew his heart ached too. The writing was simple and emotional. She understood that losing a wife was a devastating blow to her father. She wanted to be by his side but had her own demons to fight. Their hearts grew apart with time, and now after almost four years of silence she decided to pour her heart out through this letter. I had a big lump in my throat when i finished reading it. I wish there was some way this letter could reach the man and convey his daughter’s feelings.

I tried to follow the ‘twist’ that required me to be as brief as possible. I hope i did some justice to it.
